FLOWER COMMUNITY WILDRAG
Growing up in rural Missouri, Mike always understood community in the sense of a main street, a church, and the handful of places/people you intentionally interact with in a traditional small-town setting. A place like New York was so big as to be almost beyond reality, a place where crime, hostility, and the sheer number of people would preclude any real sense of community. To his surprise, upon moving to the City with his wife, Mike discovered that vibrant, thriving, and diverse communities existed everywhere he looked. With so many people walking, shopping, working, and interacting at the street level, the connection with his neighbors felt so much more palpable than in car-centric rural and suburban areas.
Now a self-described “hardcore neighborhood guy,” Mike told us that moving to New York fundamentally altered his view of what a true “community” was, and that he couldn’t imagine feeling that sense anywhere else now. “Flower Community” speaks to that unique block-to-block sense of community that only exists in New York - each square in the grid with it’s own organic and lively personality, it’s own identity. Woven together these communities work seamlessly to move, grow, change, and create a scene full of life.
